President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic attended tonight, at St. George’s Square in Sombor, a state ceremony marking the Remembrance Day of the Victims of the 1999 NATO Aggression.
On this occasion, Vucic underlined that modern international law died 24 years ago and that this is not a bureaucratic sentence, but much more than that.
Since then, nothing that happens in the world can be worse than what they did to a small country, whose only fault was that she wanted to be the owner of its own land, to be free, libertarian and as such was not to the liking of those who in 1989 and 1990 toppled the old world order and created a new one, in which they are the only ones who decide everything, he stated.
Twenty-four years have passed, you tore parts of our territory, killed our children, civilians, soldiers and policemen. Who gave you that right? You were breaking the defiant and freedom-loving spirit, but you never managed to break it, the President said and underlined that today he is doing his best to preserve peace.
My message to you is that we want peace, we do not want any conflicts, neither with NATO, nor with anyone, but we will protect our country. And when we tell you what our red lines are, then do not press us any further because then you will get an answer from proud, dignified and heroic Serbia, and our answer is – we will not give Serbia, ever, Vucic stated.
He reiterated that we will not give our children to anyone and that we will never forget all those who died during the NATO bombing.
The ceremony marking the 24th anniversary of the NATO aggression was also attended by Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, who held a memorial service for the victims, President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, as well as representatives of the Serbian parliament and ministers of the Serbian government and of the government of Republika Srpska.
This year, Sombor was chosen as the city where the central commemorative event is held because it was there that the first bombs fell and the first human lives were lost.
The NATO aggression started on 24 March 1999 and lasted for 78 days.
