Minister without portfolio in charge for coordinating activities and measures in the field of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, visited Budapest, where he met with the Bishop of Buda Lukijan and representatives of the Serbian community at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia.

The Minister and his expert team, together with the Charge d'affaires a.i. Aleksandar Lončarević, held a meeting with the aim of creating a unique strategy for the diaspora. On that occasion, representatives of the church and the Serbian community informed the Minister about their position and the challenges they face.

Minister Milićević pointed out that the goal is to strengthen existing and create even stronger ties between the homeland and our compatriots who live outside the country.
After the meeting at the Embassy, a ceremony was held in the Serbian school "Nikola Tesla" on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the school's founding, where Minister Milićević also addressed the gathering.

In his speech, the minister assessed that the Independent Serbian School is not only a place where knowledge is transferred, but also where the Serbian language, culture and tradition are nurtured among the young generations in Hungary, and he emphasized our country's support for the preservation and development of Serbian schools abroad.
He expressed his gratitude to the Government of Hungary for the invested funds and assistance in preserving the Serbian minority in these areas, just as the Government of Serbia provides support to the Hungarian national minority.

The minister particularly pointed to the friendly relations between two countries, which are the best in our recent history, thanks primarily to the personal friendship of the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban.
Milićević noted that, at the suggestion of the President of Serbia, he launched an initiative for students in Serbia and Hungary to learn about the friendly relations between two countries, adding that soon the textbooks will contain materials about agreements reached and joint projects that were implemented in previous years.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the governments of Serbia, Hungary, Republika Srpska, the Diocese of Buda, and the Serbian community in Hungary.
